Tafara joined Sound Training and Racing as a Duathlete in March 2017. As a former semi-pro soccer player, Tafara has a depth of athletic experience that contributed to her success in her first season with multi-sport events. After a 12th place finish in her first ever race at Mt. Rainier Duathlon, she competed at the Duathlon National Championships in June 2017, where she placed 20th in the sprint non-draft legal race, and 12th in the sprint draft-legal race. Following the National Championships, Tafara competed in her first triathlon, where she placed third in her age group, then on to the Seafair Duathlon, and Best in the West Sprint and Olympic Duathlons, with first place finishes at all three. New to the bike in 2017, and to the swim in 2018, next season will focus on sprint duathlon races through the World Championships in July in Odense, Denmark, and on long course triathlon through the National Championships in November.
